FOLLOWING THE PATHS OF
KNIGHTS AND PEASANTS OF ZAGORJE...
Hrvatsko zagorje, green oasis in the northwest part of Croatia,
in the 18th century was the centre of Croatian social life and
favourite residency of the aristocracy who lived there on their
estates and in feudal castles („burg“). Precious souvenirs of
the life of these times are left to us by noble families as
Oršić, Drašković or Erdödy familiy... Potepuh invites you on a
journey through the history and culture of the ancient times,
and introduces you rich cultural lendscape of Zagorje region...
We take you on a visit to the aristocrats and knights of
medieval times... we present you the history of Zagorje
serfdom..

If start from
Zagreb, the road takes us through a vivid landscape of warm
colours of Zagorje. Our 'time- travel' begins in Stubica
valley, memorial place of the great Peasants' Revolt dating
from year 1573. You will see the statue to Matija Gubec
rebels' leader, anointed as „Peasent King“ – the work art of
„grand master“ of sculpture Antun Augustinčić - standing
next to the Oršić castle, residency of the aristocrat family
Oršić, one of the leading families of the Croatian nobility. |

In the baroque edifice of ancient medieval „burg“ today is
Peasants' Revolt Museum which brings you back to the feudal
society and glorious chivalrous history of Hrvatsko zagorje.
The „Knights of the Golden Chalice“ will open you the doors
of the castle and take you into the ancient history... In
the garden of the castle Oršić, the passage to the late
middle-age is opened...authentic presentation of the life in
this period is in front of you: fencing, salamanders,
archers... ancient forgotten world. |

After the „chivalrous welcome“, professional museum curator
will lead you through the museum's permanent exhibition and
take you even more into the feudal history of Stubica region
and great Peasants' Revolt of year 1573. You will discover
all about the courage of Zagorje
serfs and their revolt as universal question of freedom.

We will end your trip by introducing you the gastronomy
history of the region. We take you to the idyllic valley of
Zagorje landscape, untouched nook of nature, separated from
the „outside world“, by gorgeous slopes of Medvednica. With
the well-kept gastronomy secrets of Pavica's cuisine made
of natural ingredients of the area, you will experience
truly beauty and tastes of Zagorje region... |
